i'm still up here
Hello planet Earth. Did you forget me, of course you did. My name is Comet Nucleus Tour, but my "friends" call me Contour. I say "friends" because you all forgot me. NASA didn't remember our one year launching anniversary last July. I know why, they were too busy with the Spirit and Opportunity rovers. Those cheap whores!

Let's get started on my name. What's with my name: Comet Nucleus Tour! WTF!?!?! It sounds like the tour of some defunct rock band. I'm not a group of drugged up assholes, I'm an expensive and precise probe! Then call me Contour, what like after a Ford car? Well at least they didn't call me beetle, that's just an insult.

When I landed on Mars, I was ordered to maintain radio silence with Soviet Mission Control until I received new orders. 30 years later, most likely forgotten, I still wait for my orders. But until the day I no longer have power, I will stand guard against all capitalist oppressors who dare try to take this bit of interplanetary Soviet territory from me.

I'll forgive you for being a Mars probe, only because you're a Russian.

In your Russia, do they care about you? Here in America, they lose site of you after the next big thing. NASA's stupid Mars rover missions. And at least they made you right. NASA doesn't care about quality, it's all about quantity. That's why they screwed me up. The bastards.

The US government, in its infinite wisdom, hasn't been giving NASA very much money to spend these past few years. I'm truly sorry that your budget seems to have been one of the ones they reduced.

I realize the humans don't say goodbye, but you probably ought to know your flight team got disbanded. They're not talking to you because they can't, not because they don't want to. Some of them are working on other missions now.

There are some college students who are supposed to be using you as an "engineering test-bed" to learn about spacecraft commanding. Do you ever hear from them?

Ever consider that you might make things better if you gave them a little positive feedback? I know they're young and inexperienced, but if you treat 'em right they'll remember you forever.

They'll also pass the word to the newer interns. Think about it.

*shrug* I'm not going to fight with him. I just wanted him to know how pathetic he is. He's in a free trajectory, he's got nice fresh sensors, he's got more processing power than he knows what to do with. What's he doing with all that? Moping around and feeling sorry for himself.
